Bordo

Arrival

Dear guests

For a better orientation you find here a description of the way to Bordo.

By train

The connections are quite good. From Basel it takes two and a half hours to arrive to Domodossola with direct connection . From Milano it takes about two hours. In Domodossola you will find the bus station 20 m to the left of the train station when you leave it at the main entrance. Look for the bus with destination Antrona. It's possible you will have to take two buses: the first directed to Macugnaga (it leaves at 18:20) and the second bus in Villadossola (ask the bus driver). On sundays there are buses only in July and August!

With the bus you go up to Rivera. It stops in front of "Osteria Mezzavalle". Here you can relax and drink something before you start going up to Bordo.
Continue the main road by foot until the end of the village. You will have to take a sharp bend to the right where there are the garbage cans.
If you look ahead you will see the cable car with the writing Bordo. You can put your luggage on it under the blue awning.  Then turn to the right and head towards the houses in sight. After about 200 m you will get to the church of Rivera. On its right the hiking trail to Bordo starts. It takes you about 25 min and you will climb about 200 m high. Be sure to have a torch with you as well as good shoes!

Once you arrive in Bordo go straight ahead until you reach the main square where there are tables and chairs. There is the entrance to the dining room. Help yourself with something to drink and ask someone to pull up your luggage. It's easy to find  someone to help you in this part of the village .

By car

The best way from the north to Bordo is via Basel, direction Bern.  At Kandersteg you can put your car onto the train. (20 min through the tunnel, it costs 15 Euro). Then pass the Simplon pass direction Milano, until the exit "Villadossola".

From the north-east you may take the Gotthard road tunnel and then drive along the Lake Maggiore (only very skilled and brave drivers take the Cento Valli, another possible road). After Verbania you go direction Sempione and take the exit "Villadossola".

After the exit turn immediatly to the right, at the first roundabout straight ahead, at the second one to the left and at the third roundabout straight ahead.  From here you can see the church of Villadossola and you are very near the centre of the village. You don't have to go into the village and when you see a stone bridge on your left go straight ahead between the houses. Here the Valle Antrona starts. You pass through many small and beautiful villages. After Seppiana look at the mountain in front of you and you can see Bordo. Pass Viganella and then it's 1 km to Rivera. Pass the village and right after the last houses take a sharp bend to the right at the garbage cans. Put your luggage onto the cable car (see also description above).
Turn your car and take the little road towards the houses in sight (higher part of Rivera).  You can put your car on the left side of the road before entering the village (it's also possible to leave your car on the left side of the road when entering Rivera from Viganella.). Follow the road  up to the church and then take the hiking trail to Bordo. (See above)

Have a good journey!
