Bordo

Bordo's Buddhist history

Buddhism played a central role from the beginning of the repoplation of Bordo in the 80's. The initiators and first inhabitants had learned Buddhism and build up a Buddhist community project. They bought the place and choose a Swiss cooperative as orgnisation form for their project.

Shamar Rinpoche in 1982 gave the name "Karma Dechen Yangtse " to the place, which means "place of highest bliss ".
In subsequent years, Bordo was visited by many high Tibetan lamas of the older generations, as well as by Western Dharma teachers who taught the villagers and their friends who arrived from far. The 17th Karmapa Thaye Dorje and Shamar Rinpoche blessed the place in the years 2004 and 2006 during their visits .

Soon, a meditation room was built and then a stupa.
In the end of the 90s the Dharmahaus for Retreatens was built.
Following the visit of Shamar Rinpoche in 2006, the General assembly of the Cooperative decided to accept the proposal of Shamar Rinpoche to be the spiritual guide of the Buddhist center and to lead it as Bodhi Path retreat following the Bodhi Path Curriculum.

Thanks to this appreciation and the active support of many volunteers the Bordo Bodhi Path retreat Center is now a place that invites you to practice the Buddhadharma in a powerful and natural environment!
